TECH Brief 43 Sampling using an Auger
FREE
Auger sampling is a widely used method for sampling bulk materials such as powders, granules, and fine solids stored in silos, containers, or stockpiles. The method relies on a mechanical or manual screw (an Archimedean screw) that transports material upward through the auger as it penetrates the bulk. Although auger sampling is relatively simple and cost-effective, its accuracy is highly dependent on both the properties of the material being sampled and the correct use of the equipment.
